Buoyed by the low turnout in Srinagar parliamentary constituency, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday asked people to completely boycott elections on April 23 in south Kashmir. In a statement, Geelani urged people to stand united in defeating the “nefarious designs of the oppressor and completely boycott the elections as they did in Srinagar”.
“(It) will have very positive and encouraging effect on the ongoing movement, as Indian imperialistic mindset is portraying these elections as a substitute to our right to self-determination and always tries to hoodwink the Indian people & international community,” he said.
On April 11, some 35% electors had voted for north Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency comprising Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora districts.
